The Wedding Planner

I am in a wedding planning frenzy today. Schmokkle, while good at this kind of thing (it comes from our days in production where the two us were SUPER co-ordinators who could organise an easter egg hunt in a mosque), is not really overly enthusiastic about it, mostly because she finds it quite daunting. I, on the other hand, can't think of anything I'd like more than to organise everyone else's lives to my taste. Despite being on the other side of the world, e-mail and the wonderful web make it possible for me to do a whole lot of legwork from my desk in London (on company time, of course) for an event that is happening on the other side of the world.

Today I have enlisted the help of my mother to get names of websites which handle everything from gazebos and chairs to cakes and wedding dresses. I am about to start making lists in excel spreadsheets (I LOVE doing this, and it's ok that this makes me a complete dork) of costs and equipment. If any of you know someone who recently got married or you just happen to have some great contacts yourselves, please pass them on. I am determined to be the most thorough wedding planner ever!

The reason for my unprofessional attitude today is that Dagwood has gone off to a conference somewhere up north, and won't be back til Monday. With a bit of luck, I'm going to sit in on a couple of our stations' shows tomorrow as well, so although I won't be working, I'll be increasing my understanding of the radio industry at large. Or so I tell myself. I will probably end up drinking coffee (or beer, depending on the time) and chatting mindlessly with the producers! I do love this industry.

We bought our tickets to the Boom Festival in Portugal yesterday. At the end of this month, we will be booking our flights to and from Portugal and Spain. Now I just have to hope I can swing this visa thing my way so this trip actually happens for me! It will be a while before I have news yet though, so for now, I'm choosing to remain calm in the face adversity. When I evenutally do lose the plot under pressure, I promise you will be the first to know and you'll have front row seats.

Dude I am THE worst when it comes to spreadsheets. I swear I get turned on by an organised spreadsheet. I've already started one for my Cape Town holiday in December!

I would kill to organise a wedding, the idea fills me with unbridled glee. All those contacts, things to organise, find out where/what/who/when/why - I'd probably even make a callsheet for my own wedding!

Oh wow I'm a nerd.

I also use one of those google calenders and have Jailbait's one too up on mine along with our climbing holiday calender so we know what is potting at all times.

Holy crap I'm sad.

You see dude, this is why were instantly friends. I FEEL YOU!!! Spreadsheets and lists... they're aphrodisiacs.

I am in organising heaven here, and the best part about it is I don't even have to be sneaky - I have nothing to do so I can openly surf all the wedding sites I can get my hands on.

Aaah, wedding planning. Almost all my friends are in or have been in the process of getting married. Plus, I recently designed an entire wedding/bridal magazine, which was one of the worst experiences of my life. not because I didnt enjoy doing it, but because the ppl I had to work with on it were the most unorganised, incompetent fools I have ever had to work with. But yeah, I can send you some stuff if you want? The mag hasnt even gone to print yet (huge scandal - the owner of the mag is being sued...you can see why it was such a bad experience).

All the best for the trip planning though! Woohoo! Wish I could go on holiday.

Ooooh that would be great snapper! Anything you have would be wonderful...I have found some amazing sites already and at the moment am just making a list of companies and resources. Then I'll start choosing the ones most appropriate for her wedding, and start costing.

Wow, some story hey, is the mag actually going to press anytime soon?

Ok I will send you what I can then :) Its all South African stuff though, is that what you need? I can also email you a "wedding checklist" that gives like all the things you should do at what time, planning wise, if you're keen?

Yeah, it was really hectic. But its been finished off from our side, and me and my compnay no longer have anything to do with it. I highly doubt its going to go to print anytime soon, Im not suprised if she goes bankrupt to the court case against her. All of her advertisers want their money back etc, I mean it was supposed to be the December 2007 edition!!! And in January, this woman still hadnt even given us all the editorial pieces! it was an absolute nightmare! But, my hands have been washed clean from that now :)

If I ever get married I am hiring you to organize my wedding! I can't handle that sort of thing... my mind is too chaotic to have any type of organizational skill.

@Snapper - thanks hun, that's awesome! Yeah, Schmokkle lives in CT and is getting married there; I am just planning from across the globe - but these days that is actually pretty easy, at least, so far it is.

Ouch to the mag saga - magazines are risky at the best of times; this story proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

@ PDX - Awesome, I'm in! The best part is, I am getting great practice at planning a transatlantic wedding right now.

@Miss M & KaB - dudes, we should totally do it. We'd be the coolest, most sought after wedding planning team in London. We'd specialise in alternative weddings, like for goths and emos and punks, and we'd advertise in Camden. KaB, you'll see what I mean when you get here!

@Angel - how very very cool, I am totally stealing some ideas from you! I had no idea you wrote that blog, am going to devour it now. Thanks re the visa xxx
